You can ignore the I/O errors, the fdl-eu.omf error message is an upstream bug that's fixed in CVS.

I would guess that the only other error is also related as it's unsucessful at retriving the file.

Re-opened by request. Dorphell, mind taking another look at this one?

Gnomebaker fails to install because of scrollkeeper. I don't remember having such issues before with archlinux, maybe something has changed?

Hmm, in your comments on that forum I see you're running a plain make install that gives these errors. You are aware that our scrollkeeper database resides in /var/lib/scrollkeeper and not in /opt/gnome/var as most shitty gnome makefiles do?

In most gnome PKGBUILDs you can find a few lines to wreck out the scrollkeeper-update stuff. After installing the package you have run scrollkeeper-update -p /var/lib/scrollkeeper, which we do in the postinstall script automatically.

i am running 'make install' because the app does not exist in the repos. It's the gnomebaker application.

I can't reproduce this. If you run "scrollkeeper-update -p /var/lib/scrollkeeper" by hand, does it show the same problem?

you could also try to run "scrollkeeper-update -p /opt/gnome/var/scrollkeeper" as most shitty gnome makefiles try to do, this also doesn't give errors on my system (delete the /opt/gnome/var/scrollkeeper afterwards).

BTW: Why are you running make install if you can copy an existing PKGBUILD, change some varnames, md5sums and have it packaged in no-time?

I will try later when I turn on my laptop.

Because this takes more time than just typing "make install". I don't have all day to play with shitty application installations on unix. I prefer to just unzip a package and drop the binary to an applications folder, just like I do on macosx. Doing even more than I already do to get a third party app does not sound like a good idea for me.

BTW, I would much prefer to have a "checkinstall" backend for Pacman, just like I do for Slackware. That's the way to go instead of having users editing files.

Is this still a problem for you guys?
Comment by Eugenia Loli-Queru (Eugenia) - Tuesday, 05 April 2005, 22:16 GMT
yup
Comment by dorphell (dorphell) - Tuesday, 05 April 2005, 23:04 GMT
well i still can't reproduce it so I don't know what to say..
Comment by Eugenia Loli-Queru (Eugenia) - Tuesday, 05 April 2005, 23:05 GMT
it happens on two of my computers, but not on the third. The third has much fewer packages installed. Maybe this is a factor.
Comment by William DeMoss II (wdemoss) - Wednesday, 06 April 2005, 12:57 GMT
This is no longer a problem for me.
Comment by dorphell (dorphell) - Wednesday, 13 April 2005, 05:15 GMT
Eugenia, you seem to be the only one with this problem here at the moment. I do want to fix this but if I can't reproduce it, I can't get anywhere, can you try to narrow it down further for me? Otherwise, there's no sense in keeping this open. I kept it open this much in hopes that someone else will be able to add to it with more feedback.
