Please make a bug report upstream
Comment by Hyperair (hyperair) - Thursday, 03 July 2008, 12:28 GMT
It's not an upstream bug. The bug is here: /usr/share/i18n/locales/en_GB
Comment by Jan de Groot (JGC) - Thursday, 03 July 2008, 12:42 GMT
It's already reported upstream:
http://svn.debian.org/viewsvn/pkg-glibc/glibc-package/trunk/debian/patches/localedata/locales_GB.diff?rev=2453&view=auto

# DP: Description: Add AM/PM strings to cy_GB and en_GB.
# DP: This patch has been rejected upstream but is in fedora-branch.

Seems upstream doesn't care about bugs in locales.

If they don't care about bugs in locales then we should have this patch implemented on ArchLinux's packages shouldn't we? Whether it's upstream or not it's still a bug. And if upstream won't fix it we should still fix it here.
Comment by Jan de Groot (JGC) - Thursday, 03 July 2008, 12:49 GMT
The reason why this patch was rejected upstream is because there's a policy to leave am_pm to "";"" for locales that don't use AM/PM time indications. en_GB officially doesn't use AM/PM anymore, but uses 24h time format nowadays. As AM/PM is very common in the UK, I think we should apply this patch for the next glibc update.

If what JGC said its true, im against applying this. Very common < Officialy used

PS. If it was that common, it would be official. Thats the way things usually work..

It's not just UK. I'm in Malaysia, and pretty much everything here that's English follows en_GB's locale, so that's what I use. We've got AM/PM here too.

This is not a bug. Some locales don't have AM/PM because they use military time (24 hour clock). And if it's rejected upstream they probably have a very good reason for it.
