I was fixing a bunch of my packages without updating the pkgrel because the changes wouldn't actually change anything to the resulting packages... however when I uploaded them it didn't update the packages in the AUR db.

I suggest that either A) update the package even though pkgver/pkgrel is the same or B) tell the user something like this: "The package already exists with the same pkgver/pkgrel. Please bump the pkgrel before uploading."

Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  Closing it now. Please don't open this again unless you have PKGBUILDs for testing. At the moment all the information we have is an error message and "this happened to me".

are you sure? I have uploaded packages with the same pkgver and pkgrel (for example only to change license="GPL" to license=('GPL')) and AUR database was update.
Infact, when you submit a package it flush out old data that will be replaced with new data.

Yeah, I'm sure. I did it with the dmd, dmdirc and copas packages. It only updated when I changed the pkgrel.

I am sure that this does work. Were you just getting the page from the browsers cache?
Comment by Anders Bergh (anders) - Wednesday, 02 July 2008, 01:46 GMT
That's odd, but yes, I do admit the possibility of Firefox caching it. I did use shift-reload (which should just ignore the cache) though. I tried uploading a package again and it did overwrite it this time.... very odd :(

This happened to someone else on #archlinux-aur trying to update the md5sum in their PKGBUILD.

Could someone please provide some offending PKGBUILDs for this? The AUR doesn't take pkvers or pkgrels into account when it updates the DB.

I'm convinced this isn't an issue anymore and is user error unless someone can give me a PKGBUILD to reproduce this. I'm going to close this soon unless someone does so.
