Description:
I would like to become an "official" mirror for Arch linux packages. I already have a hosted server set up that rsync's off of mirror.cs.vt.edu.
http://www.schlunix.org/archlinux/$repo/os/i686
http://www.schlunix.org/archlinux/$repo/os/x86_64

I also want to keep outdated packages on that server in case anyone wants to roll back to an old version. Here is the forum topic I started:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=50883

What steps would I have to go through to become an "official" mirror, and be able to sync off archlinux.org instead of another mirror? Does Arch even need any more official mirrors?
This task depends upon

You don't have to sync off of archlinux.org to be an official mirror.

Before we can make it official we need to know where the mirror is located so we can add it to the pacman list and the website categorized by country.

Location and IP addresses so we can add it to the archlinux.org rsync whitelist is what we need.

The mirror is in the USA.
IP is 67.205.26.1

Are there specific time slots for syncing to archlinux.org?
Comment by Dale Blount (dale) - Tuesday, 01 July 2008, 16:40 GMT
Lyle, we don't assign slots, but don't sync directly on any hour/half hour.

I noticed the 67.205.26.1 IP resolves to ip-67-205-26-1.dreamhost.com.
I don't know what they allocate you for transfer, but it's likely to go over.

We can't have our "official" mirrors going down when you hit your quota.

I have bandwidth of 7000 GB/month from Dreamhost right now, I highly doubt he will go over. Simo's mirror is also on Dreamhost.

I have over 6.05TB monthly, expands by 40GB every week.

I've added the mirror to both the website and the wiki mirrorlist.

Can I be added to the archlinux rsync whitelist?

I'm guessing I want to sync off of "ftp" correct? If I sync off of "ftpfull" one time will that get all the older versions of packages? I do want to maintain as many old packages as I can.

How often do most mirrors sync? I don't want to waste the archlinux.org bandwidth, but I want to stay as current as the other official mirrors.

schlunix.org resolves correctly to 67.205.26.1, but because I'm on a shared server with Dreamhost the IP that would need to be whitelisted would be 208.113.252.223. Of course that would open the door to anyone else on that server being able to rsync off of archlinux.org. So if you would rather I just continue to sync off of another mirror let me know.

Added to mirrorlist, will be in 3.2.1 pacman build.
