There's example error message:

ERROR: Failed to parse the following modeline of display device
0x00000001 'Iiyama PLE2003WS' connected to GPU-0 'GeForce 6800 XT':
source=edid :: "nvidia-auto-select" 119.000 1680 1728 1760 1840 1050
1053 1059 1080 +HSync -VSync

it's unable to set resolution at all so it hurts a bit when someone use nvidia-settings instead of other ways to switch resolution... fortunately LC_ALL=C fix this, there is patch from nvidia that will be included in next release: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/~aplattner/nvidia-settings/commit/?id=89e149a1c5f497b6a841e334ccc90755e6a721b4 (it's mentioned there: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=113934 ) - it would be great to include it in package before next driver release because there is some time between releases

cheers,
Andrzej.

Which version of nvidia-settings are you using?

I have latest version of driver (173.14.05-4) and latest versions of "utils" (173.14.05-1), I think nvidia-settings is bundled with second one, but there's exact version information. I think that problem is reporoducable only if you set locale to some that have comma in digits instead of dot like 119,000 instead of 119.000 - that probably place that breaks it and enforcing C locale is what patch above does

nvidia-settings --version

nvidia-settings: version 1.0 (buildmeister@builder63) Mon May 19 00:34:28

I can't reproduce the problem here, but reading the forum topic it is an upstream problem which will be fixed in the next release. So you'll just have to wait a bit :-)

ok, then I symlinked nvidia-settings to script that sets locale and then launch it so it "works" for now... I just hope next upstream release will be out sooner than 6 months for example ;)
