Description:

Certain conditions cause gnome-panel to crash, and then crash upon restart over and over again; deleting the gconf and session files is necessary to restore functionality. It's hard to tell exactly what these conditions are, but they seem to involve editing the properties of applets.

Can you remove the networking manager applet and see if the problem still occurs?
Comment by Ash (Thikasabrik) - Monday, 30 June 2008, 07:16 GMT
I get crashes in epiphany with the same kind of networkmanager related errors. It happens every time NM signals that a connection is available (when epiphany would normally switch from offline to online mode). However, the xsession log is 224 seconds old in this report... maybe this is a totally different problem.
Comment by name withheld (Gullible Jones) - Monday, 30 June 2008, 10:18 GMT
That's a problem with the new Epiphany, not gnome-panel, AFAICT...
Comment by Ash (Thikasabrik) - Monday, 30 June 2008, 11:36 GMT
Or both problems have a common cause (NM?). But, as I say, the age of the messages in your report would suggest they are irrelevant.

you should be able to see more info
specific to the gnome-panel issue i you run it from a terminal
`gnome-session-remove gnome-panel`
then run `gnome-panel` from a terminal

Same Error here:

** (nm-applet:4759): WARNING **: <WARN> hal_net_physdev_cb(): dbus returned an error.
(org.freedesktop.Hal.NoSuchProperty) No property net.physical_device on device with id /org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/net_00_15_af_31_26_be

Arch x86_64, Fluxbox and nm-applet.

same error when using network-manager in conjunction with fluxbox so this is not gnome-panel related could origin author change title/subject for convenvience of other users?

for my installation this message occurs with atheros based device. someone agrees?
Comment by Gunnar Thielebein (tekknokrat) - Monday, 10 November 2008, 16:17 GMT
Ok, reason for the error message is that the property net.physical_device was dropped in favour of net.originating_device.
I've created a version of nm-applet (0.6.6) which resolves this error.

Is gnome-panel still crashing? I don't care about warnings from a stupid applet that hosts itself in the notification area, that can't crash gnome-panel.

For me this bug disappeared a long time ago... Not sure about everyone else though.
