Description:
System freeze/kernel panic on closing the lid on a HP Compaq 2510p. It seems to result directly from the kernel, it even happened when going to runlevel 1. I am not sure though whether this is Arch-related or directly kernel-related. I could use your help to find out.
Oh and I don't have any events configured in my acpid.
It does not happen when I disable ACPI in Grub. Interestingly it does also not happen when I disable one core of my Core2Duo in BIOS. For me it seems to have something to do with kacpid (this kernel acpi thing) generating an event which conflicts with something because of multithreading (SMP) (see dump below) :/

Additional info:
* package version(s)
kernel26-2.6.24
or kernel26-2.6.25

* config and/or log files etc.
one resulting dump to screen: (more to follow)
/dump/
BUG: unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at 00000000
IP: [(00000000)]
Oops: 0002 [#1] PREEMPT SMP
Modules linked in: ipv6 cpufreq_userspace ext2 joydev pcmcia hci_usb 3)BUG: scheduling while atomic: kacpid/14/0x00000003
/dump/
other dumps were lots and lots longer with more debug info (callbacks and stuff like that) Sometimes it says something about "Not Syncing" and "kernel panic" I'll report with more info as soon as I have another computer to type on again :-)

Steps to reproduce:
--Take a HP Compaq 2510p laptop, install Archlinux and enable ACPI (i.e. don't _disable_ it in your Bootloader)

--When everything is done, open and close the lid a few times (I couldn't find out an exact number of times.
Sometimes it happens on the first time, sometimes it needs more.)

--Freeze! No SysRq, no nothing... (I didn't try out serial console yet, because I need to get a USB-Serial adapter thing first)

It seems to dump some debug information to the tty. I attached one case which I typed off the screen on my other computer.

P.S: What should be the severity of this bug? I read through the wiki article but I couldn't say whether this is an essential function or not so I filed it under Medium.

I meant kernel26's versions 2.6.24 _and_ 2.6.25 :-)
and in the dump, the round brackets should all be replaced by < or > respectively.
the computer I typed it on had a broken keymap, it seemed...

it also happens with a Vanilla kernel, but not with a -mm patchset, it seems, so it's most probably not Arch-related. Sorry guys for bothering you =) Now I just have to wait until the patchsets from Morton are in the base kernel. :D
Cheers Phil
