Hi,

after a system update (stable) to the given driver and xorg-server version 1.4.0.90-12 X doesn't recognize my laptop's display anymore.

I cannot say if it just with the internal one, or also the external one.

Problem is, it says: no display found.

After I install xf86-video-vesa I got gdm starting again, though that driver doesn't help me much, as it is very limited...

Reason for closing:  Fixed
Additional comments about closing:  Fixed with xorg-server 1.4.0.90-13 which includes a patch to use intel instead of i810 by default.

Is this an upstream bug?

There is only one bug I could find reporting something same:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=15742

But I think that's no big help yet.

Hmm, you're not using any configuration file? I removed the i810 compatibility symlink from xf86-video-intel to make it parallel installable with the i810 driver. Either your config lists i810 as driver, or Xorg autoconfiguration selects i810 as driver for your videocard.

In case of the 1st issue: change i810 to intel in your xorg.conf. In case of the 2nd: go to /usr/lib/xorg/modules/drivers and symlink intel_drv.so to i810_drv.so until we have a fix that makes Xorg load the intel driver instead of the i810 driver when running without configuration.

Thanks, the symlink fixed that for me.

Yes, I don't. Why should I? Everything is working perfect without one :)
Only my synaptics touchpad would require one I guess (to get the size right).
