I have not been able to compile some AUR packages on my P4 machine.
Now I found in /etc/makepkg.conf there was (perhaps set up by installation system)

CFLAGS="-march=p4 -mtune=p4 -O2 -pipe"

I had to change "p4" to "pentium4" and it works now.

My P4 machine has quite a new Arch installation (about February 2008)

Reason for closing:  Not a bug
Additional comments about closing:  -march=i686 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe and -march=x86-64 -mtune=generic -O2 -pipe are the defaults that work. Something or someone changed it on your system.

Are you sure you didn't change it... The default march/mtune is i686

Though it looks really strange, as on Arch everything used to be i686 by default, I am pretty sure I didn't change it. If I change anything in config files I always keep the previous in a comment and add my name and date. But this was not the case.

If noone else objects and it's i686 in the current default (not set up by the install system), why bother - let's forget it.
