Description:
By default, OpenOffice use JMF (Java Media Framework) which has not been updated in 5 years. It's extremely hard to get it to work. I spent a few hours creating a package for it because the JMF package on AUR does not work. While the libraries are found, I get no video and sound. Searching google gives you the same story. Getting JMF to work is a PITA. I've tried to get it to work on Ubuntu as well with the same result. Debian has a gstreamer patch for their openoffice. I propose that we use that patch. Recently, I had to resort to PowerPoint on Vista to create a presentation with video in it. |

We generally don't patch for features, only for fairly significant/severe bugs or compat issues...preferring to leave bug fixes to upstream whenever possible.
