Seems to be CUPS problem, because other apps (such as Gedit) are freezing too. Reboot solved the problem. So, bug may be closed now.

I have rebooted, and am running an up-to-date system and printing still freezes openoffice.

please report your architecture, cups and libcups version, maybe hplip, OOo version, raise debug level for cups server and start soffice from command line. then report any usefull output.

Ah, my mistake...I was looking for http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/10740 - upgrading openoffice-base, ghostscript, and cups fixed this. This should be closed.
