description:
i don't know if it's kernel or wpa_supplicant related, nor i have tried the newest kernel package (from testing), but it's becoming quite often that when i shutdown my computer with wpa_supplicant connected to a WPA TKIP the kernel panics. i can only read something about wpa_supplicant on top of the screen, then some probably useful values that i'm not able to present.... tell me how and i might do it...

it believe it may also be related to iwlwifi (3945) as my colleague has the same wireless hardware and software versions and is facing the same problems...

software version:
kernel26 2.6.24.3-3
wpa_supplicant 0.5.10-1
iwlwifi-3945-ucode 2.14.1.5-2

Yes, I have the same problem. Actually, it occurs EVERY time a shutdown my computer. Package versions are the same.

The only I have to append - it started only after I've switched to the netcfg2. With the old network scripts everything works fine.

That could be when it started for me too. I haven't read the script, but I don't see how it would cause that though....

Right, I noticed that two months ago already, I should probably have reported it here after figuring out it was iwlwifi :p
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=328667#p328667

I didn't think about the relation to netcfg2 though, I was probably already using it at that time. Anyway, I don't think there is a problem in netcfg2, simply that it somehow triggers a bug in the iwlwifi driver.
Also, if I remember correctly, I built some custom 2.6.24.x vanilla kernels, and it still crashed from time to time on shutdown.
Then I tried 2.6.25-rcx with a similar config, and I don't think I ever saw one crashing. So I think we can hope this problem will be simply fixed when 2.6.25 is released :)

yes, let's hope that... let me remind that this doesn't occur every time i shut down....

Sorry, I forgot to specify that. It was always random to me as well. Just that it seems to have complety disappeared since the early 2.6.25 rc releases.

iwl3945 in 2.6.24.x kernel is very, very old (1.1.17) and not stable for WPA etc.. Stable WPA support is from version 1.2.+ . Please be patient for new kernel 2.6.25, will latest driver version (at moment 1.2.26).

The kernel driver of iwl3945 is not good :-( I have also big, big problems, i use driver from http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Download - is latest.
