Description:

After recent upgrades, many/most of the xscreensaver modules (e.g., BSOD, several of the GL screensavers like the ant maze, etc.) are no longer visible via the KDE control panel's screen saver module. (See attached screenshot.) When I try to view the savers through xscreensaver's own GUI, though, they show up.

One of the recent upgrades to either KDE (3.5.9) or xscreensaver (5.05) - or perhaps both - is likely responsible.

i cannot confirm this here all show fine, could you try with a brand new user if it still happens?

I also noticed the missing screensavers in KDE's control panel(s). I downgraded the xscreensaver package without improvement as a test, so it might well be an issue with newer KDE packages. I am NOT running the kde-mod packages btw.

i686 or x86_64 affected?

I can confirm that, for both arches, xscreensavers are not shown in KDE control center.

I found the cause of this: kdeartwork 3.5.8 was providing .desktop files for the xscreensaver's screensavers in /opt/kde/share/applnk/System/ScreenSavers/. The new package (kdeartwork 3.5.9) only provide the .desktop files for its KDE screensavers.

So this was an upstream change then? Anyone know if anyone at KDE is aware and/or planning to fix it? I did a quick search through bugs.kde.org, but didn't see anything relevant.

The desktop files are still present in the kdeartwork source tarball. Either make install doesn't install them by default anymore or there was a build error.

Must have been a bad build. They're present when I build the package locally. Weird ...
