Yeah, the slim-themes package is mine. I'm going to snag Thayer's slim theme soon-ish and move that one to "old-archlinux" or something similar.

Arch Retro ^_^

Aaron, hold off until after the weekend if you can. I'll update the theme to be resolution-independent and maybe throw in a couple more.

Brilliant!

Looks great to me... I'd prefer the "arch" to be in white, but that's just my opinion. Could we wrap two or three themes into the package? This actually brings up another topic about how/if/where we could put together a community artwork section.

Yeah, the slim-themes package has all the themes from the slim website. I could either add all the arch themes to it, OR make a secondary slim-themes-arch package. Opinions?
Comment by Roman Kyrylych (Romashka) - Friday, 01 February 2008, 19:37 GMT
maybe just integrate it in current slim-themes. *shrugs*

I think we should consider making the slim package vanilla (and the same for KDM/GDM) and then create arch-specific theme packages that could be referenced in a post-install message.

This is already done. slim and slim-themes are separate. The arch theme is there because it is listed on the site: http://slim.berlios.de/themes01.php

The question is this: do we modify this to include additional themes, or keep it as is while adding another slim-themes-arch (this means that the "archlinux" theme would stay the same in the slim-themes package)?
Comment by Roman Kyrylych (Romashka) - Friday, 01 February 2008, 19:44 GMT
We could replace it with newer (and rename older) and contact mainstream so that they will do the same in a next release.
As for KDM/GDM/etc. Thayer's proposal is good (same could be done for slim-themes if mainstream wouldn't provide Arch theme, I think).

How shall we proceed with this? I have created two simple resolution-independent slim themes:

http://dev.archlinux.org/~thayer/art/slim/

I can contact the upstream devs, have the old one replaced with these. Then perhaps we could put together a single "retro" package that contains all of the old themes, icons, wallpapers, etc. of the old logo. What do you guys think?

Yes, I think this is the way to go.
I like how the first preview looks, but IMHO the half-gradiented logo on AUR pages is nicier, but I don't know how it will look on a console with limited colours (probably not worse)

FYI the themes have been updated with the new logo upstream, our package simply needs rebuilt. I will be bundling a couple of other slim themes into a separate package which will also contain the old 'retro' logo.
