Description:
Using kernel 2.6.23.9-1 together with wine leads to a performance issue when there is IO action.

encountered it playing World of Warcraft

reverting to kernel 2.6.23.8 resolved the problem for me.

Additional info:
kernel 2.6.23.9-1
nvidia 100.14.19-6

Take a look at:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=40776

It looks like it has something to do with the v24 CFS patch.

kernel2.6.23.12-1 from testing has the same issue.

Problem persists with latest kernel as well. System becomes unresponsive with a non-CFS-patched kernel. For more details: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewforum.php?id=22

kernel26-2.6.23.14-1 *is* a CFS-patched kernel. Is this a reverse of original bug, or a typo?
Anyway, 2.6.24 will hit Testing soon, as well as new nvidia drivers, please test them then.

.24 has all cfs changes included as the end of the .23 kernels we provided

Still a problem? Even with 2.6.25?
Comment by Timo Busshaus (mockfrog) - Saturday, 17 May 2008, 17:36 GMT
yes, the short freeze in World of Warcraft still happens every 15 seconds.

a workaround to this is to run a low priority endless loop in the background.

Please file a bug report upstream
Comment by Eduardo Romero (kensai) - Monday, 11 August 2008, 21:59 GMT
Was the bug filed upstream? Do this persist even with the new 2.6.26.2 kernel? If it does, then it is just an upstream problem. Can somebody comment on this?
