xchat-gnome starts fine here. Maybe there is a problem with your configs. Can you start it as another user?

I've tried with another user: crash.
I've tried on a fresh Arch Linux "Don't Panic" install: crash.

I've asked about this issue on an Italian IRC channel about Arch Linux (#archlinux on irc.azzurra.org), somebody tried to install xchat-gnome and they also had this crash. I've also seen on bugzilla.gnome.org that many people have this same issue, so I think this is an upstream bug and it isn't strictly Arch-related.

I think it's a problem with the italian translation, as reported here:

http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=487503

I patched the it.po file, as shown in the post, and it works.

I've attached a tar.gz with the modified PKGBUILD and the patch.

I hope it will be usefull!
