Description:
When I attempt to setup my modem with gnome-ppp, it reports that system cannot detect the modem.
I experience the same thing described in the following forum thread:
http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=35669

and can confirm that it happens with two machines - both running x86_64 with 2.6.22.1-4
kernel. Tomorrow I'll try to build my own 2.6.21 kernel and see whether it works with it as mentioned in the thread above.

Additional info:
* package version(s)
* config and/or log files etc.
Here is dmesg.log in the attachment.

Steps to reproduce:
   dmesg.log (19.9 KiB)

Hi!

After some more research it looks that the problems are due to permission on /etc/resolv.conf, if. after I started gnome-ppp as root, modem is recognized :-)

So, it seems that bug report is invalid, ie. it does not have anything with kernel problem, although I'm not sure what changed that forum user could access the modem in 2.6.21.

Sincerely,
Gour

Hi!

Let me just inform you that the bug can be closed - I resolved the issue by following wiki (http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Allow_users_to_dial_with_wvdial) and combining "Using a dialout group" & "Using sudo" sections (following just 'sudo' section did not help :-(

Sincerely,
Gour
