Details
When using console font lat1-08.psfu.gz in rc.conf and
"nvidia" in xorg.conf, then after the xserver starts, the
consoles go double-lined. The lines are interlaced by empty
lines, so that effectively only the first few lines are
visible on the screen.
Also Ctrl-Alt-F1 only works in KDE and not when KDM or ICEWM is showing. |

do you have LINES envvar set to something?
The problem only occurs if
I set lat1-08 and I use nvidia (unlike nv) and I start X11
I think I only modified rc.conf and used nvidia-xconfig. The rest is ArchLinux default.
What else could I check?
I can't actually check if non-KDE xstartup gives the same behaviour, because only with KDE I can switch to consoles
with Ctrl-Alt-F1 :(
I updated some time ago to
xorg 11R7.0-1
nvidia 100.14.19-5 (nvidia logo also displayed at startup)
LINES=50 COLUMNS=80 (shown by export on that console)
I set in rc.conf:
CONSOLEFONT=lat1-08.psfu.gz
CONSOLEMAP=
Before the xserver everything is normal.
Is xorg the (enough) latest?
Not sure about updating. After the last update I had a (SATA) kernel panic probably due to missing dependency of kinit-extra.
Also it took me a while to find out, that the old xorg.conf had to be recreated.
Could you try if nvidia-169.07-1 from Testing fixes your issue?
xorg-server 1.4-5
What's the best way to access testing packages?
luckily the required kernel26 update didn't break any setup.
it would be convenient if testing/nvidia had testing/nvidia-utils as a dependency.
Anyway, I think there's nothing we can do with this bug, because nvidia is a binary driver. :-/
nvidia 169.12-2
it is still double lined.
