The windowmaker PKGBUILD uses the following ./configure switch: --with-gnustepdir=/usr/share/GNUstep

All the GNUstep packages in AUR install to /opt/GNUstep

I filed a bug against WindowMaker because placing GNUstep in /opt seems right to me. If you disagree, please repost.

When something is able to integrate into the FHS specifications without much problems, a package should go to /usr. We moved xfce and we will move gnome soon to that prefix too. I never liked the /opt/ prefix at all, so I'm happy we're moving this stuff over now.
If GNUStep is able to integrate into /usr without problems, then it should go there, not in /opt/.

Well, its not really able to integrate under /usr.
GNUstep uses the OPENSTEP specification for directories (under its own root)

[~]$ ls /opt/GNUstep/
Local System
[~]$ ls /opt/GNUstep/System/
Applications Library share Tools

This bug has been marked as unconfirmed for a while. What exactly needs confirmation?

Status: Unconfirmed doesn't mean much, in fact.
