I think that good idea is replace tetex package with texlive. What do you think?

Take a look at http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=271357 for some very well done TexLive package builds

Hi!

Pls. add the above texlive-* packages to community repo.. tetex is dead and texlive is present as well as the future of TeX typesetting.

Sincerely,
Gour

The texlive-* packages are now part of community since some time, not sure if that's reason enough to close this task though.

well for texlive to fully replace tetex, and by fully i mean all packages which depend on tetex eg.lyx, should depend on texlive instead.
that means that texlive should be moved from community to extra and to be picked up by a developer. which i am assuming is a lot of work to maintain. Firmicus is doing a great job maintaining it , but hes not a developer himself.
Maybe there could be PKGBUILDs for the packages for applications which depend on texlive rather than tetex uploaded to AUR at this point.

I noticed some activity lately on the ML regarding this issue. Do we have a plan in place now so this can be closed, or should it be left open?

Firmicus is now a developer, he will be dealing with bringing texlive into extra and removing tetex.

The 2008 release of TexLive is imminent. As soon as the sources are publically available, I will prepare new packages and put them in testing.
And once they reach extra, tetex will move to community.
