Thank you Tobias. I will be unable to test anything for a week or so but will advise ASAP.

I tried this patch and it did not work. It would have surprised me since, from what I understand, the patch applies under the conditions that the volume is mounted. In this case the floppy is no yet mounted.

Any idea ?

Hal 0.5.8 has been released on September 11. Let's hope it is fixed in there.

Please try hal 0.5.8.1:
http://www.archlinux.org/~jgc/hal-0.5.8.1-1.pkg.tar.gz

It isn't compiled with policykit support, still have to work that out (blegh, another daemon, another framework that hooks into dbus and pam)

They don't show up in lshal also anymore? And what happens when you apply the patch in this bug to the .fdi file?

I can confirm the same results as Tobias.
Jan, can you be more explicit when you say "And what happens when you apply the patch in this bug to the .fdi file". Which patch and which .fdi file should we test?
Also, this bug has been recnetly fixed in Debian. (last two or three weeks). They are still with hal 0.5.7.1, but now with udev 100.
