I think it would be a good idea to put the new XOrg server and video drivers in the Testing repo... IIRC 7.1 is supported by the current nvidia driver, and the open-source radeon driver is very much improved from what I've heard, so I don't think it would ruin 3D support for people's video cards. That said, it would probably be a good idea to keep it in Testing until it was supported by fglrx.

Failing that, I guess the place to put it would be Unstable, since it probably could be considered so to a degree until it works with fglrx...

Okay, I get the problem with the XOrg server... What about the new open-source video and input drivers though? Would those be compatible with the older Xorg server, or would they break hideously?

Ebeh, I should not have asked for a reopen before asking on the forums... Got the answer some time ago, changes in EXA would break all the drivers hideously. My bad, someone please close.

Alright, the latest ATI and nVidia drivers finally support XOrg 7.1, though nVidia doesn't support AIGLX.
