#19079, #19109 and now this - is this somehow related? I'm not a dev, so I don't think I can help, but I think showing us the relevant lines from /etc/rc.conf wouldn't hurt (CONSOLEFONT etc.).

Install a nice font: 'pacman -S terminus-font' and change appropriate lines in your rc.conf to match these:
CONSOLEFONT="Lat2-Terminus16.psfu.gz"
CONSOLEMAP="8859-2"
(yeah, I know you don't need Lat2 settings, but those should work).

You should read up http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fonts#Changing_the_default_font

It's just a wild guess, but do some / any of the related problems regarding consolefonts have sth to do w/ recent development?
http://projects.archlinux.org/initscripts.git/
http://projects.archlinux.org/mkinitcpio.git/
Both deal w/ consolefonts. Thomas?

Same problem here. I have not been able to boot since this morning.

I think I did a pacman -Syu (actually I did: packer -Syu) yesterday evening. This morning was the first boot after this.

I am not sure what caused it, but please let me know if I need to provide (more) information / details / logfiles / rc-files.

As it makes my boot process fail, I suggest to set the severity to a higher value.

I have the same error on x86_64, AMD64.

Sometimes the boot freezes with "setting console to utf-8" and other times the boot process follows without any problem.

I have this problem only with 2.6.34 kernel, no problem with 2.6.33. Sometimes I receive error traces and error messages saying that the filesystem is read only. If I reboot, sometimes everything goes OK.

I can't find these traces in logfiles, I'm looking for a way for posting the traces.
