Description:

I am receiving intermittent (happens around 50% of the time) errors when trying to print using my Brother HL-1440 USB laser printer. This is a working printer with proper configuration. CUPS was upgraded on 30 Jan 2010, and it worked afterwards until today. The printer is not connected over a network. It is a simple USB connection.

Basically, without any apparent cause, the CUPS spooler will return "Unable to write 8192 bytes to printer!". Printing sources vary between Firefox to PS and PDF documents stored locally.

Additional info:
* package version(s): CUPS and libcups 1.4.2-3
* config and/or log files etc.

In the log file, the ACL errors would not be relevant, as the printer was working fine on those days. It's only today (5 Feb 2010) that this problem started occurring.

I can confirm that issue, with a MP510 and the turboprint driver. It started to happen since the move from cups 1.3 to 1.4.

Conform that bug on Samsung 2010 with splix (and other driver too). On old cups 1.3 all work perfecct.

Google returns lots of hits when searching for your error.log entry. Please search for a solution.

Yep. you're right. And guess what ? at the time of posting, nobody seemed to have any solution. Believe me, I looked for it.

I just searched for a solution and was still unable to find anything useful. It's annoying.

The issue is still occuring with the current cups version (1.4.3-1)

Then it's time to contact upstream developers and try to find a solution. I'm not the man to fix an upstream bug.

If you don't file and post an upstream bug we can follow I will soon close this one.

Is it solved? If not ask splix/cups developers and/or file an upstream issue.

I can confirm this problem with a Canon MP630 and Cups 1.4.3. It is not solved yet. I will try to file an upstream bug report.

For me the problem now has been fixed upstream in SVN (see upstream bugreport).
