Since xorg-server 1.7.2 my system fails to log into gnome.
It starts for half a second, and then falls back to GDM.

Looking at log-files it seems to do a segmentation fault.

Additional info:

GPU: ati radeon hd 4870 x2
No xorg.conf

Downgrading to 1.7.1.902 solves this issue.

Please provide logs. I can reproduce this on intel on my x86_64 system btw, I also downgraded because it's my workstation I use at my job.

Klaus:
Could you please give a better description of "recent update"?
When was it fixed, and what package-upgrades fixed it?
You may look at /var/log/pacman.log

For me this bug is still there...

The backtrace matches the one I remember seeing on my intel system, so this is an issue with xorg-server. You might want to downgrade to a version in your pacman cache in the meanwhile. I'll try to reproduce this thing so I can debug it.

Please try xorg-server 1.7.3-1 from extra. At this moment only x86_64 is available, i686 packages will be provided soon.
The new package reverts the upstream fix that introduced the crashes here. This package has been tested on my Q35 workstation that suffers the same problem.
