When you make filesystems/assign mount points in the AIF, it shows:

/
/boot
/tmp
/etc
/home
c - custom

It might list more and in different order, w/e. But the issue is /etc.

Except for unionfs-type deals, a separate etc won't work. And the default init-scripts/setup do not support such a scheme without extensive modification. So this option should be replaced by /var or removed.

Among others, rc.sysinit is in /etc.

He means that it needs to be in the root file system, else the system won't boot.

Arch expects /etc to be on the same partition as /, as does any other linux I've ever used.

+1 for adding /var as I use that all the time.
