You seem to have the same card and the same problem. I have had no problems with the legacy driver.
Comment by morgan (yossarianuk) - Monday, 16 November 2009, 20:02 GMT
They have noe completely removed the legacy intel driver !

My machine is crashing at least once a day now.

Any way I can stabilise this ?

I have disabled GLX in xorg.conf and used nopat in grub.

Anything else ?

What kernel are you running? The log suggests that it is i915 kernel drm driver that is dying.

http://intellinuxgraphics.org/2009Q3.html (see "Already fixed in newer kernel (2.6.32-rc1):")
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25091 (similar report, no response yet)

It looks like 2.6.31.2 and 2.6.32 (willl have) this fix:
http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux-2.6.git;a=commit;h=e517a5e97080bbe52857bd0d7df9b66602d53c4d

I suggest setting up the magic SysRq key or use the VESA driver until this gets fixed.

Please try kernel 2.6.32 with xf86-video-intel 2.9.99.902 from testing.

I have

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)

and with 2.6.32 kernel from testing and the 2.9.99.902-3 xf86-video-intel-newest, I get lockups (timing is random -- it'll work for an hour sometimes, sometimes for several hours before locking up) with the following errors:

EE intel(0): Failed to submit batch buff, expecting rendering corruption or even a frozen display: Input/Output error

This is actually an improvement over previous versions, as you can actually ctrl-alt-backspace to kill X and go back to the console. However, if you try to restart X it just gives a black screen. Previous versions hard-locked everything except moving the mouse. Xorg log is attached (minus about 90MB of the above error :) ). Let me know if you need other information.

I have the similar problem on macbook2,1.
My laptop graphic chip is
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GM/GMS, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)
and I found that
With kernel2.6.32 + xf86-video-intel 2.9.99 or xf86-video-intel 2.9.1-1 X both random crash, the monitor shows totally black or white, I can't switch to tty1, but i still can change backlight by my keyboard hotkeys.
And another strange thing is if I use dual head monitor, my laptop monitor(LVDS1) crash(totally white or black), but other monitor(VGA1) is still alive i can do any thing on it.
Also, I maybe found a way not to crash my monitor, using kernel2.6.32, xf86-video-intel 2.9.1-1 add "nomodeset" and "nopat" in grub kernel line, my computer seems ok for a long time.
I attach error logs and X.0.logs in kernel2.6.32, xf86-video-intel 2.9.1-1 enable KMS(default), and nopat(disable KMS)
p.s. I don't have X config file, I use hal.

If anyone need more information, please tell me. I will be grace for you attention.

I can confirm the "EE intel(0): Failed to submit batch buff, expecting rendering corruption or even a frozen display: Input/Output error" error.

Kernel 2.6.32.4
Xorg-server-1.7.3.902-1
Xf86-video-intel-2.9.9.902-1

hmm, just posted this:
http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/18022
Sounds like your problem as well... for me lockups do not occur before my laptop has gone to sleep and wokeup, I saw it go, black, grey and red. System still works when logging in via ssh only a reboot restores the screen though.
