Description: GDM 2.28 crashes Gnome at seemingly random
intervals. When a crash occurs, the gnome-session ends and
the user is presented with the gdm login screen. It is as if
the user did a ctrl+alt+backspace to simply restart gdm.
Obviously, all work is lost when this happens.
Additional info: * First observed in gdm-2.28.0-1 but also present in gdm-2.28.1-1 (my system is x86_64) * Temporary fix is to simply downgrade back to 2.20 of gdm. After doing so, I have NOT experience a crash. Steps to reproduce: This is difficult to document, I haven't been able to track it down to any specific action or application. Often when I'm typing in the Arch forums in firefox, the crash happens. Other times, I'm just logged into Gnome and am using nautilus to browse to a directory. Another time, I simply had a shell open and was typing in it, before I had the chance to hit ENTER to run the line, the crash happened. Link to discussion thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=82308 Be warned that some users in this thread describe the crash respawning gnome in a TTY that isn't TTY7! I have not observed this at all - mine always respawns back on TTY7. |
