Description:

Kernel26's initrd can't be generated. After the update of kernel26 2.6.30.6-1 on 10/09/09, the mkinitcpio halts suddenly:

==> Running command: /sbin/mkinitcpio -k 2.6.30-ARCH -c /etc/mkinitcpio.conf -g /boot/kernel26.img
:: Begin build
:: Parsing hook [base]
:: Parsing hook [udev]
:: Parsing hook [autodetect]

And it doesn't continue, it stays at [autodetect], and mkinitcpio can't be stopped with Ctrl+C. So, the initrd can't be generated. I'm currently using kernel26-bfs, or else, I would have problem to boot into my system.

Additional info:
* package version(s): kernel26 2.6.30.6-1

Steps to reproduce:

* Install the latest kernel26.

If you want that I attach any logs, please tell me.

Does 'pacman -S mkinitcpio kernel26' help (to reinstall mkinitcpio)?

It seems you are keeping current with kernel releases (BFS): if you have 2.6.30.5, try installing that to see if it works with your system in it's current state.

No other reports about this happening - what board/chipset/system is this?

Well, I did. It didn't help though. It hasn't happened before.

It got strangelly got solved after I changed position of the HOOKS:

from this:

HOOKS="base udev autodetect pata scsi sata keymap firmware filesystems"
to this

HOOKS="autodetect scsi pata filesystems sata base udev keymap"

I booted with stock kernel26 and it seemed OK.

I really don't know what happened.

I think that was rather a workaround than a fix, but I'd request closure, since I tested mkinitcpio again and I had no problem.
