@Skottish: Yes, an announce when this and others pkg related to this change (filesystem, udev, syslog-ng) hits [core] will be necessary. Please see  FS#11352  for more details.
Anyway, when users changes these important packages is a "must review" for pacnew files, like in some previous updates, otherwise the system will be unusable.
