kernel 2.6.30 introduced an ACPI regression that affects Sony Vaio FW laptops, one of the things it causes is missing /proc/video/ entries (screen brightness control etc).

Log line: [Firmware Bug]: ACPI: ACPI brightness control misses _BQC function

A possible fix has been released: http://patchwork.kernel.org/patch/16469

The patch above is not present in the current package 2.6.30-5, hopefully it can be included in -6?
This task depends upon

oh crap, while the report/patch above is still valid for vaio ACPI keys, i found that it isn't the cause for the missing /proc/video entries:

[Wiki] "Note : DSDT hooks for mkinitcpio have been removed as of kernel 2.6.30, please compile dsdt directly into the kernel"

i'm using a custom dsdt..

why was it removed? this is really going to make my life a lot harder.. :-/

apparently i don't ;-)
