Additional info:
[2009-05-16 10:21] upgraded libgl (7.4.1-1 -> 7.4.2-1)
[2009-05-16 10:21] upgraded intel-dri (7.4.1-1 -> 7.4.2-1)
[2009-05-16 10:21] upgraded mesa (7.4.1-1 -> 7.4.2-1)
[2009-05-16 10:21] upgraded xf86-video-intel (2.7.0-3 -> 2.7.1-1)

Steps to reproduce:

2.1, sdlmame (select any game and run)
2.2, enter google earth, then exit, X will crash

Imho this bug should be tagged as critical, any configuration of Xorg in runtime will result on a crash (xrandr) etc.

Can't reproduce it on my intel hardware, what videochips do you have?

edit:
Appears to be reported upstream: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21756
There's a patch in that bugreport which I will apply soon.

I'm not sure if this bug report is the same, because at least in my case, Xorg just crash (not freeze), but we can try :)!

Btw, lspci | grep -i vga

Thanks for your quick response!

I second afiestas: this should be tagged as critical. For example, on KDE anything that causes a kwin restart (e.g. changing your desktop effects) will cause you to either lose you KDE session (if you're lucky) or result in a completely unresponsive system that you have to reboot. Looking at the forums this seems to affect lots of users. Most don't realize that *this* is the problem they are having because they never get to see the underlying error message from Mesa 7.4.2
