A blind user has asked in the italian forum for the inclusion of brltty (braille display driver) in the installation cd.

Building the package with

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --mandir=/usr/share/man --disable-i18n --disable-icu --disable-iconv --disable-api --disable-caml-bindings --disable-java-bindings --disable-python-bindings --disable-tcl-bindings --disable-x --disable-gpm || return 1

will result (according to him) in a working package, not so big (about 4 MB) and without any extrernal dependency requirement.

Perhaps we could build a "installation only" version of brltty, stripped down as shown above, and include it in the iso.

This will give a lot of help for blind users, and lets them install arch on they're own.
This task depends upon

  • Field changed: Attached to Project (Arch Linux → Release Engineering)
Additional note: we plan on releasing an accessibility ISO at some point with espeakup and whatnot. This would be a perfect candidate for that ISO too

A minimal brltty will be on my next unofficial TalkingArch ISO.
See the brltty-minimal package in the AUR.
