Please file a bug report upstream, and post the link here. This doesnt seem to be only an Archlinux issue.

I have no problem on i686 so this may be x86_64 specific.
Comment by tdy (tdy) - Thursday, 22 January 2009, 01:46 GMT
It's working fine on my x86_64 (gftp-2.0.19-1).
Comment by Matt Runion (mrunion) - Thursday, 22 January 2009, 03:41 GMT
It works fine on my HOME x86_64, but FAILS with a segfault on my i686 laptop. Both are updated every day and BOTH are running KDE4 from testing -- if that matters.

Try again after deleting your ~/.gftp config directory.
Comment by Matt Runion (mrunion) - Thursday, 22 January 2009, 21:19 GMT
Nope -- didn't work. All it says from the command line after running gftp is "Aborted".
Comment by David Leutzinger (leutzdave) - Thursday, 22 January 2009, 22:37 GMT
Tried deleting $HOME/.gftp directory, uninstalling and reinstalling package, still get same error showing in /var/log/everything.log

I get the aborted message when using kde4 from testing i686, but works fine when I am running xfce.

Bug exactly as described (immediate segfault) exists on two separate i686 installations here but workaround of downgrading gtk2 to previous version (2.14.6) seems to have worked without other breakages. Originally isolated this to gtk2 using a fresh mimimal Arch VM installation.
Comment by Alberto Gonzalez (Luis) - Saturday, 14 February 2009, 14:52 GMT
I also have this issue (on x86_64) and downgrading gtk2 to the previous version (2.14.6) also fixes the problem.
Comment by David Leutzinger (leutzdave) - Saturday, 14 February 2009, 18:28 GMT
Performed the mentioned downgrade here:
pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/ghostscript-8.63-4-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
pacman -U /var/cache/pacman/pkg/gtk2-2.14.6-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz
Fixes the segfault, works again.

Does anyone know more about this bug?
Is it a GTK bug or a GFTP one?
Is it reported upstream in any of the projects?
Why is the severity rated as Low, when the program can't even start?
Comment by David Leutzinger (leutzdave) - Monday, 09 March 2009, 05:53 GMT
x86_64 installation:
extra/gtk2 2.14.7-2 [2.14.7-1 installed]
extra/ghostscript 8.64-3 [installed]

Starting from command line:
dave@dellazoid ~ $ gftp
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Xlib: extension "Generic Event Extension" missing on display ":0.0".
Segmentation fault

I suppose the severity is low because we still have ncftp to get things done.

Has anyone tried a rebuild?
Comment by Hugo Doria (hdoria) - Saturday, 21 March 2009, 02:31 GMT
Rebuild does fixed this problem.

Could you post a backtrace?
Comment by Greg (dolby) - Saturday, 21 March 2009, 02:44 GMT
Also try using a different GTK+ theme. Sometimes the theme is the cause of such issues.
