alsa-utils needs to be rebuilt against the new ncurses to fix line drawing issues in alsamixer (see screenshot in this thread: http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=409152#p409152)

if it was an ncurses problem i suppose alsamixer wouldnt start at all..

I use x86_64 and I can reproduce the problem at will. Alsamixer starts ok, but looks like gibberish -- rebuilding fixes that. I just checked in 32bit chroot and it all seems fine there, so I guess it's a x86_64 only issue .

I confirme that only x86_64 has the problem. BTW, alsa-{lib,utils} are out-of-date. We could update and rebuild them at the same time.

They seem to have been updated on trunk but never built. Anyone know if there was a reason why?

I'm also effected by this problem. I'm using x86_64.

Rebuilt alsa-utils fixed the issue for me too.
