I can confirm this bug. With ndiswrapper 1.52 works fine.
Comment by Ionut Biru (wonder) - Thursday, 14 August 2008, 21:16 GMT
b43 supports the g part for bcm4312. did you test to see if is working with that and drope ndiswrapper?
Comment by Guilherme (underguiz) - Friday, 15 August 2008, 14:39 GMT
No, b43 doesn't support this card at all. If i'm wrong, can you explain me how do I use b43 with this card? Because I've tried and it doesn't connect and/or find networks.

also try using b43legacy. be carefoul to firmware version. b43 use 4.150.10.5 and b43legacy use 3.130.20.0

I also find this bug (i can't use b43 because i have a draft-n card), but i can't verify if the problem is just ndiswrapper since i have problem also with acpi on 2.6.26 kernel.

i can confirm the bug-report by jayr. i experience exactly the same thing on my girlfriends notebook which includes a broadcom 4312 wlan card too.
Comment by Richard McPheeters (tankmcp) - Monday, 25 August 2008, 00:41 GMT
I can confirm this bug as well. Requires hard reboot.
Comment by Jesus Christ (Intrepid) - Tuesday, 26 August 2008, 16:19 GMT
I can also confirm this. However, I compiled/installed some native drivers (rt2570) and they work fine, thus either ndiswrapper is at fault, or some modules/drivers do not work with kernel26 2.6.26 (like my DVD drive). Netcfg does not cause the problem as quickly as NetworkManager. Hard reboot is the only solution.
Comment by Tobias Powalowski (tpowa) - Tuesday, 26 August 2008, 21:14 GMT
does a simple rebuild of teh 1.53 driver also help?
Comment by Cyrus metcalf (cyrusmetcalf) - Wednesday, 27 August 2008, 16:53 GMT
I can confirm this bug as well, requires hard reboot. using Broadcom BCM4311 (not supported on b43) problem started immediately after upgrade to 2.6.26.2-1 freezes all networking related programs including conky, firefox,
Comment by Tobias Powalowski (tpowa) - Thursday, 28 August 2008, 06:57 GMT
any status on rebuilding the module against the latest kernel26?
Comment by Cyrus metcalf (cyrusmetcalf) - Friday, 29 August 2008, 01:55 GMT
I just upgraded to the new Kernel26 (2.6.26.3-1) and everything appears to be operating properly.

still having same problem here after upgrading 2.6.26.3-1
Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)

@tpowa: this is a duplicate of  FS#11200  and both reports have many comments now, so I'm not sure if one of them should be closed now. :-/
Comment by Roman Kyrylych (Romashka) - Friday, 29 August 2008, 19:56 GMT
to everyone who have problems with BCM4311 card - http://linuxwireless.org/en/users/Drivers/b43 says it *is* supported
Please try to use b43 driver instead of ndiswrapper.
Use b43-fwcutter and broadcom-wl-4.150.10.5 firmware as described in wiki (link is few comments above)
Comment by Cyrus metcalf (cyrusmetcalf) - Friday, 29 August 2008, 20:58 GMT
I take back what I said in my last comment, although my internet operates more smoothly than it did with 2.6.26.2-1 (while it is operating), the system still freezes after about ten minutes :(. I'm going to try switching to the b43 driver as per Romashka's post (thanks for the info btw)
Comment by Stephen Tanner (scubanator87) - Wednesday, 10 September 2008, 03:22 GMT
Has any one tested it with the latest kernel update (2.6.26.5-1)? I have my kernel and ndiswrapper packages ignored in pacman until the fix is confirmed. I also have the BCM4312 card (dell) witch the site says it works on one page but on the confirmed page it is absent from the tables. I tried using b43 fallowing atleste 3 different sets of instructions. none produced working results so im really reliant on the ndiswrapper :-(
Comment by Stephen Tanner (scubanator87) - Saturday, 13 September 2008, 15:51 GMT
Maybe every one should vote on this so that way it will be looked at eventually?
Comment by Stephen Tanner (scubanator87) - Tuesday, 16 September 2008, 14:06 GMT
Ok well i can confirm that using the latest kernel26 (2.6.26.5-1) and the most recent ndiswarpper/utils (1.53) that the crashes are still occuring.

After removing the holds upgrading everything, I used some pre-built ndiswapper packages for the 2.6.26 kernel thanks to community member kumyco on this post:

http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=54224

and for those of you who are too lazy to click the link:

pacman -U http://nrk.cc/arch/ndiswrapper-1.52-2-i686.pkg.tar.gz http://nrk.cc/arch/ndiswrapper-utils-1.52-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz

And these packages seem to work fine.

Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g (rev 01)
I get the impression that we are being asked just to go use the b43 driver. The only problem is it doesn't work (connect) with this card. Although it is listed on the driver page, it is NOT confirmed to work, and does not work. I'd be happy to use it and abandon ndiswrapper. Voted for this issue in hope some attention might be paid.
Comment by Jannick Kuhr (JAKuhr) - Wednesday, 17 September 2008, 14:21 GMT
I can confirm this issue on my HP dv9773 notebook with a BCM4328 card (03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4328 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 03)) which is _NOT_ supported by any other driver than ndiswrapper including B43. See their homepage for further information:

"Unsupported:
(...)
BCM 4321 (Has PCI-IDs 0x4328 and 0x4329) - These devices have N Phys. There is no support for any Draft 802.11n features. We are working on it."

ndiswrapper 1.52 still works fine. Please try to fix this issue.
Comment by Tobias Powalowski (tpowa) - Wednesday, 17 September 2008, 14:31 GMT
well upstream ndiswrapper seems broken for b43 cards, if we would downgrade would it break cards for other users?
Comment by Gabriel Gayan (makGuitar) - Friday, 19 September 2008, 18:03 GMT
I can confirm the same issue with a dell 1395 wireless card (BCM4310). Downgrading to ndiswrapper 1.52 as Stephen suggests works fine for me.
Comment by Tobias Powalowski (tpowa) - Sunday, 05 October 2008, 15:47 GMT
broadcom released new drivers for linux, might be woerth a try instead this ndiswrapper stuff.

I fallowed the instructions from the wiki using the AUR package. I had to disable ndiswrapper module and reboot first and then fallow the instructions but it seems to work fine. Will test it more later.

Ok so after installing, i now have eth1 rather than wlan0, connecting to a hidden unencrypted wireless network works, speed is fine, and connecting to WEP networks is fine. The only thing not working right now is that Since i am using networkmanager, my preferd networks show up with 100% signal strength all the time.
Comment by Tobias Powalowski (tpowa) - Saturday, 11 October 2008, 20:34 GMT
so what's teh status of this with .27 kernel?
can we close this?
Comment by Patrick McCarty (pnorcks) - Monday, 13 October 2008, 08:03 GMT
When I load ndiswrapper 1.53 in the new kernel, my system no longer freezes up, but I am unable to connect to any wireless network using it. With 2.6.26, I was able to connect to a WPA network with ndiswrapper 1.52 without a problem. Fortunately, my card is now supported under the new kernel (RTL8187B), and this driver works great!
Comment by Stephen Tanner (scubanator87) - Tuesday, 14 October 2008, 14:11 GMT
OK so the broadcom driver is no longer an option since i upgraded to the 2.6.27 kernel. Ill file a bug report with them. Ill try ndiswrapper again later.
