Description:
I have to close the lid more than once until it suspends. It's configured to suspend in gnome's power management.

i got almost the same problem... for me it doesn't work at all. acpid recognizes my poweroff button, or when i close the lid, but it doesn't do anything, despite the fact, that i've set /etc/acpi/events/lid to "action=suspend" and /etc/acpi/events/power to "action=hibernate". nothing happens but a few lines in the log similar to the ones the bug reporter has already posted.

Did you try pm-suspend and pm-hibernate from pm-utils?
