Something should be done so that packagers that depend on other packages which are about to be deleted will be informed beforehand. They should be told why the package is planned to be deleted, and what can be done to prevent it from happening (for instance, if it is orphaned, than one of the other packagers can be asked to take it over for the sake of their own package). Another idea from Allan is that deletions can only be done with approval from a TU.

Well, that wasn't part of my initial idea. I just want the packagers to have some heads up before one of their dependencies is deleted, so that they can take the time to fix it or take it over. If they don't want to mess with it, oh well, then it can be deleted. They got the heads up.

And while I'm commenting here, "Packages" in the subject line should be "Packagers", and "than" should be "then". ;) I didn't see any way that I could edit that post.

I'll probably implement this once the new package action functions are pushed to testing.

Well. I pushed a patch to aur-dev for discussion [1] some weeks ago but there wasn't a single reply.

Also, I'm not sure whether this is a good solution. I'd rather prefer TUs double-checking other packages that depend on packages they delete before doing so...
