It's 'zcat', not 'bzcat'.

This happened to me too, but only when I compiled my own kernel using the PKGBUILD and config of the "official" kernel26-ARCH (+ macintel patches, which unfortunately for me weren't included in this release). I just cp'ed the kernel26 dir from /var/abs, added a patch and makepkg'd.

This didn't happen when I installed kernel26-2.6.25.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.gz from the repos. I'm using x86_64, btw.

I'm sure I'm missing something, since this happened too some time ago when I built (vanilla) 2.6.25-rc?? also using the Arch kernel config.

From the original post, I thought it might be due to the missing mactel patches, but from the last post, it looks like adding the mactel patches breaks it.

I think it might be broken initramfs image, but I have no information that could confirm that.

I believe it isn't, since it happened too without the patches.

any status update on this?

I just reinstalled arch, rebooted (no problems there)
Installed all updates. rebooted and booting is problematic. I HAVE TO insert a CD during the boot process otherwise it will hang during boot.

Although i'm still experiencing buggy behavior, this bug "Couldn't mount root /dev/sda4" should be closed.
